This is more of me thinking out loud, but it might be a good number crunch if anyone else is ineterested...
I was playing with the GCD and haste and
Arcane Blast.
Base cast time of Arcane Blast is 2.5 seconds. Base GCD is 1.5 seconds.
You can reduce the GCD to a 1 second cast. This takes 50% haste, or 1639.5 haste rating.
It is fairly easy as an arcane mage to reach 25% haste (623.01 rating plus 6% from talents), without buffs.
Bloodlust is 30% haste (983.7 rating) and lasts 40 seconds.
Icy Veins is 20% haste (655.8 rating) and lasts 20 seconds.
With the 25% haste I have now, and Bloodlust, for 40 seconds, my GCD is capped at 1 second. My Arcane Blast is at 1.375 seconds.
For the sake of the GCD, further haste will not have an effect, however, another .375 seconds faster (12.30 haste rating) will bring the Arcane Blast cast to match the GCD.
What does all this mean? This means that for 40 seconds, you will be casting your main nuke every second untill you run OOM.
This is the issue. Running OOM. With a 25 man buffed 2.5k mana pool, and a steady Arcane Blast spam, I can empty my mana pool in about 13 seconds.
Why did I type all this out? Beacuse if I can get another 12.30 haste rating, I might be looking for a shaman and a few druids to chillax for a few minutes in org my some dummies. I'm very curios to see what the dps would be if you could sustain this for 40 seconds...
And if that is possible, to get an additional 8% haste to reach about the same numbers with icy veins to see if it's sustainable for a whole 60 seconds...
