There was a long thread on EJ about this subject, and i find it really interesting. Thought it might be a good thing to talk about.

The idea is to get an Earthliving on each weapon, drop a healing stream totem, and raid (or party) heal to your hearts content.

The theory also speculates that you need enough haste to make spamming chain heal useful, and that you are strictly a "melle" or "ranged" healer, as it wont work as well on single target. It's sounds like a pretty fun play style, in the fact that it completely out of the ordinary. Although spamming chain heal might get a little old.

Anyone else's thoughts?

      I actually looked into this back when I was planning to buy dual spec on netharion way back when.  Back then the build was considered too narrow to be of much use unless you were in a 25 man raid and had other healers to cover your weaknesses.  Because of the loss of almost all the utilty resto brings they more or less advised against it.  That said I haven't read up on it in forever and they've buffed chain heal a lot in the last few months so I dunno what the verdict is now. 

I love these kind of non-standard builds though, my biggest disappointment in recent memory was that prot spec healing got so popular they had to nerf it.

First, glyph of healing stream is our single gimpest glyph.  HST's core heal value is a shitty 25 every 2 seconds.  It's only after you add the resto talents, and the huge spell power coefficient it gains, that it puts out decent numbers.  The glyph for HST actually adds it’s 20% before any talents or spell power coefficients are added.  So it’s only adding 5 HP5.  In ideal situations where your entire party is taking constant mediocre damage, that major glyph will give you a massive boost of 12.5 HPS.  Not only is the glyph itself utter shit, it’s limiting you to only cast HST.  Sure, you can drop MST, but when you do, you now have a major glyph that is completely wasted.

Second, all healing maces are Main Hand, so you’re also left to probably acquiring some random offhand weapon with poor stat allocation to fit your healing spec.  

Finally, the healing done by EHW isn’t exactly game breaking.  It’s a chance to proc a minor HOT that currently claims approximately 6% of my total healing done.  With the 5% gain and another weapon to put EHW on, it still would only put out about 12 percent.  Again you’re sacrificing a major healing glyph to acquire a minimal healing boost; because the increase of another 6% healed by this spell is factoring in that you have it cast on two weapons both with a +5% chance to proc EHW.

It’s a cool idea, and I’d like to see someone actually give it a shot.  I just don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze.

The offhand issue is an issue but there are several decent options, Librarian's Paper Cutter had decent itemization for a healing offhand, and there was a heroic BC dagger with two sockets and some other non-useless stats that were at the time considered best for this.  You also have to remember that the second earthliving enchant does give additional healing.  Essentially they were comparing the offhand to your shield slot, not mh and at the time there were no shields that gave greater spellpower benefit (not sure if this is still true.)  Earthliving weapon isn't doing much for you but you're not running dual earthliving with a glyph to improve procs either.  The idea of the build was in part to be able to throw a chain heal and proc earthliving on 3-4 targets at once, speading the hot around the raid. 

     It was a really narrow build, the only spell you cast is CH.  It had a lot of things going against it.  At best it was considered at the time to be a one trick pony that tried to brute force out additional spellpower in order to make chain heal better. It was also supposedly boring to play, since you only had one spell to cast.  As of now I imagine the build's dead since I can't even find the thread for it on elitist jerks. 

edit: finally found the thread on EJ's they say the build's dead since 3.1 when ancestral awakening started counting overheal. here is the thread if you want a look.

i figured it had died out awhile ago, just thought it was an interesting concept. There was a very short discussion on party healing as shadow while still being able to pull about 1.5k dps...

when i say short, i mean 5 posts before it was locked and lost.

i just thought the DW Chain Heal was a cool concept.

Casting c-heal is not rocket science.

Unless youve had too much to drink or smoke or both. But when you are at that point you will end up worrying more about how to tie your shoe lace that came undone
