I was reading Druix's lovely tree healing post, and it says that I should keep lifeblooms up on tanks.  However, I don't really know if that is possible for me because I really think I will run out of mana.  Since the patch I've been putting 3 on the tank, letting it expire, and then doing 3 more.  It seems to work out well, but is that a bad idea since then there's that time where there is no lifebloom up?  Maybe once I get better gear I'll be able to do it?  But also, most of the time in my pugs I don't really have any buffs so maybe in a raid I'd do better at mana regen because of buffs.

I wouldn't be worried about putting 3 up and letting them expire.  Just make sure you are slowly putting the 3 up (as opposed to putting 3 up very quickly one right after the other) otherwise you will be casting 3 for the duration of just one - which would be very mana inefficient.  And yes letting them drop isn't as good as keeping 3 constantly rolling, but running out of mana is even worse.

You are right that your mana regen will be much higher in a raid setting.  You get a bunch of extra mana buffs that you don't always get in 5 man heroics.  So that should help also.

And, your mana regen should climb quite a bit once you start getting better (raid) gear.  But as always, you will just have the find the balance between putting out as much healing as possible and keeping your mana from running out.  Don't forget your innervate is always their to help you on every boss fight.  As well as a mana potion on the worst ones.

One thing that may help - I use the mana restore meta gem and although I can't quantify it, I think that helps me a bunch with mana regen.  http://www.wowhead.com/?item=41401  Just make sure you can meet the gem requirements for its activation - one of each color gem.  Although not as powerful (healing output) as the one you have presently, it will help you with mana until you get full raid gear.  In fact, I've been meaning to upgrade to the one you have now that mana really isn't an issue.  But I keep waiting for an upgraded helm to put it on.

speaking of innervate has anyone seen the incoming innervate changes for the next patch?

"Innervate: This ability has been redesigned to grant 450% of the casting Druid's base mana pool to the target over 20 seconds"

Big buff to pvp geared druids and incidentally its now worth it to innervate a resto shaman or holy paladin should the need arise.

Pfft I'm the only person you need to worry about innervating, the rest of them don't do crap.

I've decided that my mana issues are due to bad pugs.  I did some heroics yesterday with guildies and I was doing great in the mana department.  So that makes me feel better about keeping lifebloom up.

Raiding was fun but I felt kind of overwhelmed.  And like I wasn't pulling my weight.  But I guess practice makes perfect.

Toki - Glad you enjoyed it - I thought you did fine.  I did take a second to compare your and my spell usage to see how things are different- The stats are from healing during "Defeated Bosses" on the wws stats.  Not that my way is perfect, plenty of druids use Nourish and rejuv a lot more than me, but just to give you some ideas.

Toki
29% wild growth
28% lifebloom
22% rejuv
10% swiftmend
8% nourish
1% tranquility

Druix
44% regrowth
22% lifebloom
21% wild growth
4% rejuv
3% nourish
2% swiftmend
2% swiftmend

The major difference I see is that you didn't cast regrowth at all.  IMO regrowth is the best of our big three heals (regrowth, lifebloom, wild growth).  It is great for raid healing where the raid is continually taking damage because it hits the raider with a big initial heal and then continues healing for about 21 seconds.  It really makes a difference on bosses like Sapphiron (blizzard), Kel'thezad (frost bolts), Faerlina (poison bolts), 4 horseman (aura damage), and Grobbulus (poison clouds), where a lot of raiders are taking constant blizzard, frost bolt, poison or whatever damage.  Also it is great for main tank healing because it is so long lasting you don't have to worry about refreshing it for a long while.  Which is nice considering you are constantly worrying about keeping lifebloom up.  I normally order tank heals - lifebloom, regrowth, rejuv, and then wild growth.

One other note, although tranquility is very good in 5 man groups, it isn't that effective in raids because it only extends to your 5 man group and not to the whole raid.

I guess I'll try to use regrowth more.  I just never do, for some reason.  I don't really know why, but ever since I got nourish that seems to be the button I press instead.  But I think one of my problems yesterday was that I always felt like I was behind.  The other healers would get the big heals in on everyone that needed it, so by the time I clicked on them they wouldn't need a big heal anymore.  It was my first time using healbot, so I have to get used to that.  I have a mac and I don't use a mouse besides the trackpad and the click bar.  So I'm probly a bit slower because of that.

Hehe...I guess this thread isn't really about lifebloom anymore.  Oh well.

We do have a tendency to get sidetracked...

Also, the healers we have in this guild are all top notch. We've been healing with each other for a considerable amount of time, and we know how each person is going to react to each situation, and how to heal based off of that.

Don't worry about not getting in your big heals. It will take time and practice in a raid setting, but you'll get there.

PS: Investing in a usb or wireless mouse is a very good thought. You can get some decent ones for around $20. I can tell you personally, that I cry when I forget to bring my mouse home for my laptop and I will refuse to heal anything.

Another aspect is the boss fights themselves -- at this point most of us know when the spike damage is going to come and when we can stand around and  Banana while letting mana regen. With time you'll be  Banana with us in no time.
